August Super-Saver layouts...

With the summer heat hitting us every day, why not stay cool and capture those sunny memories the easy way -- with SG's popular Super-Savers? Our August layouts are just waiting for your photos!

Here's a look at the three layouts we'll be making Saturday, August 6 in the Super-Saver Scrapbooking sessions at Scrapbook Generation. As always, your cost to make these three layouts at SG is an amazing $9. Give us a call to register and pre-pay. Sessions are held at 10, 12:30 and 2:30. And don't forget that you'll get one punch on your Studio G Reward Card. Don't have a card yet? No problem...we'll make sure you get one!

We're expecting this set of pages to be popular. Because we can only seat 32 people per session, please call early (417-886-0440) to reserve your spot!

If you can't attend and would like us to make you a kit, the fee is $10 and is due at the time you request the kit.

Note to Super Sketch Club members: Yes, materials for these three layouts will be included in your August kit!

Super Sketch Club news...
The July kit is sold out. New club members will start with the August kit.
Family news...
Home from the hospital, with Nurse Karin and Nurse Debbie alternating work shifts! Thanks so much for all your concern and well wishes. They have been much appreciated by the entire SG family.

Hospital news...
We're still here. Mother will have a few good hours, then she'll have a problem with nausea. We're going to be here, I think, until she's able to eat. Hopefully, we'll be able to take her home in another day or two.

August and September newsletters...
The print newsletters will be mailed Monday or Tuesday. We're anxious for you to see what we have planned for August and September, including a couple of new class series that will get underway in September. (I've already added the August calendar to the left sidebar here on the blog.)

August Super-Saver...
We're working on a special summer-themed set of layouts for the Super-Savers on Saturday, August 6. We should be posting the photos here in just a couple of days. We're using papers and stickers by a new company, and we think you'll love the look! You can choose from three sessions (10, 12:30, and 2:30), and we're taking sign-ups already. We can only take 32 people at each of the sessions, and I have a feeling that these are going to fill up quickly once you see the layouts.

Additional "No Frills" Studio G Saturday Crop...
Because of a scheduling conflict, Tammy Tutterow will not be teaching at SG on Friday and Saturday, July 29-30. Since this leaves us with a free Saturday, we've added a "no-frills" crop this Saturday, July 30. The fee is $5, and you are responsible for your own snacks and drinks. You are welcome to bring a lunch, go out for lunch, or have something delivered to SG. People attending the crop receive 10% off their purchases. To register for this crop, just call us at 417-886-0440.

Christmas in July card class...

Tuesday, July 26, we hope you can join us for a "Christmas in July" card embossing class with Kristi VanDoren. You'll be making three cards and getting an early start on Christmas cards this year. The cards use a large Dreamweaver stencil, and we'll have extras in case you want to purchase your own. Each card uses a different technique, and is beautiful in person! The class begins at 5:30 pm, and the fee is $15.
The latest...
After the excitement of Monday night, we've settled into the hospital routine. I think my mother will be here for a few more days. Although she's still uncomfortable, she seems more like herself as each day goes by, so that's a good thing.

I wanted to thank everyone for their concern, and for all the caring comments left here on the blog and on Facebook, both the SG page and our personal pages, and also on the Two Peas message board. They mean a great deal to us, and we've read them all to her. I think that given our occupations, we should probably print them out and scrapbook them!

Super Sketch Club kits...
We shipped a small number of the kits on Wednesday, and the great majority are shipping today. It's possible that a small amount will go out on Friday. This is the first time that the postal service has picked the packages up at SG. The guy who came on Wednesday was not particularly happy with the amount of boxes, and it was only a small fraction of what he'll see today!

I'll also let you know that there are only about 20 extra kits left from July for those of you who are thinking about joining the Super Sketch Club and would like to start now. We usually have more than that. I've been trying to anticipate the amount of growth per month when I order the next set of materials, but we've had a ton of new members in the last couple of weeks, so these will probably go pretty quickly.

What a night!
There's something to be said about emergency surgery...there's no time to think, worry, or fret. Karin and I had a memorable night with our mother, Mary Lou Rush, Monday evening.

About 11 pm, I drove my mom to the emergency room in Springfield, about an hour's drive for us. It took quite some time to get in a room, then also more time for examinations and other things. I always call Karin for emergency room visits so that she can share the fun, but I had intended to let her sleep this one out. However, about 3 am, I decided that the way things were progressing, that she needed to be there, too. After a specific test at 4:30 am, they decided that Mother had a ruptured appendix. By 6 am, she was in surgery.

After she was out of surgery and in a room, Karin stayed with her while I went home to get some sleep. Right now, we've switched shifts and Karin is getting some rest.

Stacey and Allison and Don have been at SG all day trying to get the rest of the Super Sketch Club packed. We had a good amount of them done before this happened, and it's looking like we'll still be able to ship on time, with about half of the boxes going out on Wednesday and half on Thursday. Anyway, that's our goal.

I have a class on Thursday that I'm going to go ahead and cancel. Karin and I will be taking turns here at the hospital for at least five days as my mother recuperates and they make sure that there are no problems with infection.

From time to time, this is what happens when you're a small family business. Family comes first, business comes second. The great thing, I know that all of you understand that.

Cool off with Saturday's Allison Davis sketch layout class...

Doesn't splashing in the water sound good with all this heat? We'll be making the layout above in the Allison Davis free sketch sessions this Saturday. Your cost to make this layout? Usually the price would be about $4, but in honor of the fourth anniversary of our sketch sessions, we have a special deal for those of you who attend our in-store sessions. You'll be getting 20 percent off the price of your sketch papers, so your cost to make this layout will be closer to $3! Can't beat that deal!

Just call us at 417-886-0440 to register for a session at 10 am or 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 23. Bring basic tools, and we'll provide you with a free computer sketch that you can use over and over!

And don't forget, we'll punch your Studio G Reward Card. Don't have one yet? No problem, we'll be happy to get you started on the way to earning some great rewards like free page kits, $20 gift cards, and other goodies!

If you want a kit, the fee is $5, and is due at the time the request is made. (Sorry, above discount does not apply to kits.)

Product updates...
• Graphic 45's "The Magic of Oz" collection was ordered over a month ago, and has evidently been wandering around the world all this time unable to find us. I talked to the company today and they are re-sending the shipment and we should finally have everything by Friday.
• K & Company's Smash Book products have been hard to come by all at one time. I didn't want to get bits of the line here and there, so I ordered the entire line, with a display, that is supposed to ship to us in early September. If we're lucky, we'll get it in time to be able to take it to Scrap-a-Palooza!
Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker 'world premiere' day...
We had so much fun Saturday making layouts, eating cupcakes, taking mini-classes, eating cupcakes, buying new Nikki Sivils papers, eating cupcakes...you get the picture. Right now, we have a full supply of six of Nikki's collections, including two (School is Cool and Get Well Soon) that can't be found anywhere in the world except at Scrapbook Generation! Other groups you'll love as well include Beatrice, Summer, We Are Family, and It's Your Day.

Nikki Sivils Scrapbooking Drive for Joplin...
Nikki Sivils, her husband Dan, and employee Lanie traveled to Joplin Sunday afternoon to deliver the donations from individuals (like those of you who brought items to SG) and companies Nikki contacted.

"We have 46 ladies and 50 tubs and boxes so we've almost met our goal of finding 50 scrapbookers that had their homes leveled by the tornado," Nikki said. "What's left over will go to the Joplin schools, Children's Haven (a place parents can drop off their kids during a family emergency with no questions asked) and Bright Futures (this group reaches out to families with children that are struggling to make ends meet). The turn out was so huge the product was everywhere through out my home and on three pallets in my garage! I'm so thankful to each and every one of you!"

The tubs used to hold the donations were provided by Spellbinders as well as the U-Haul that has been rented and used to deliver the donations. The tubs are used to hold miscellaneous items, and Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker provided donations of scrapbooking supplies plus boxes so that paper can be stored nicely and not damaged or bent.

Manufacturers who donated items included the following:
Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker
Maya Road
Bella Blvd.
Elle's Studio
Jillibean Soup
Bazzill
Elmer's
My Little Shoebox
Helmar
Best Creations
Graphic 45

Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker Day...
We hope you are making plans to join us Saturday, July 9 as we showcase two of the new collections by Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker. We have a full day of activities planned, including lots of yummy mini-cupcakes. (Allison and I are cupcake-crazy right now, and we'll have some new flavors for you to try out!)

I also wanted to let you know that even if you don't participate in the mini-Super-Saver sessions, I hope you stop by to talk to Nikki. She is extremely deserving of some extra thanks right now because of what she has been doing for the scrapbookers of Joplin who lost everything in the recent horrible tornado. Most of you know that Nikki came up with the idea of collecting items to give to the Joplin scrapbookers, and many of you brought donations of new and used items to SG. So many items, in fact, that it took Nikki and her helpers two trips and two loaded-to-the-top trucks to move the things to her home.

In addition to donations from individuals, Nikki contacted other scrapbooking manufacturers, and they were extremely generous. For example, Bazzill sent a huge amount of cardstock, and other companies sent paper trimmers for each of the 50 donation boxes Nikki planned to assemble. The amount of work it took to process the 100 boxes of products sent by these companies, and make everything into organized gifts for the Joplin scrapbookers was huge. I hope you can stop by and let her know in person that you appreciate her idea and her hard work to allow Joplin scrapbookers to enjoy their hobby again.

Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker World Premiere Day Saturday at SG!

Layout #1 for the special mini-Super-Saver for Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker World Premiere Day.

Layout #2 for the special mini-Super-Saver for Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker World Premiere Day.

We hope you can join us for a special day this Saturday. For the fourth time, we'll be the site of the world premiere of two of the new collections of Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker, a company based right here in Springfield. The rest of the world has to wait a few more weeks until CHA in Chicago, but we'll be debuting two of Nikki's latest collections. We'll also have several other collections of Nikki's that will be new to SG that we debuted at Scrap-a-Palooza last month.

There are lots of special activities planned for Nikki Sivils Day, including three free mini-classes taught by Nikki and her local Design Team. The thing I always notice about the free classes they teach is that Nikki is very generous with the amount of product you'll be using to make your creations!

What we have planned for Saturday...
• Mini-Super-Saver Scrapbooking sessions at 10, 12:30, and 2:30. You'll make two double-page layouts for only $6, using Nikki's super-cute new "School is Cool" collection. Also, attending one of the sessions gives you the chance to get closer to earning prizes in the Studio G Reward Card program and get two punches instead of the normal one punch. Just call 417-886-0440 to register and pre-pay for this activity. The 10 am session is getting close to being full! (If you would like a kit, the fee is $7 and is due when the kit is requested.)

• All Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker items will be 20% off.

• To make room for all the new collections we had for Scrap-a-Palooza, we'll be adding lots of items to our clearance sections!

• Three free mini-classes all day long, taught by Nikki and her fabulous local team, led by Katrina Hunt and Heather Schroeder.

• Both Scrapbook Generation and Nikki Sivils will be giving away several door prizes. You don't have to be present to win.

• Our world-famous (almost!) snack buffet featuring delicious mini-cupcakes will be available all day.

NOTE: Super Sketch Club members: The two layouts above ARE NOT included in the July kit. If you would like to add this kit to your July kit, the deadline for the request is by the end of the day Monday, July 11. If we ship to you, the fee for the add-on is $10, which includes $7 for the materials and sketch and $3 for the additional shipping costs. Request the kit by calling 417-886-0440 or by sending an email to debbie@scrapbookgeneration.com.
