What a night!
There's something to be said about emergency surgery...there's no time to think, worry, or fret. Karin and I had a memorable night with our mother, Mary Lou Rush, Monday evening.
About 11 pm, I drove my mom to the emergency room in Springfield, about an hour's drive for us. It took quite some time to get in a room, then also more time for examinations and other things. I always call Karin for emergency room visits so that she can share the fun, but I had intended to let her sleep this one out. However, about 3 am, I decided that the way things were progressing, that she needed to be there, too. After a specific test at 4:30 am, they decided that Mother had a ruptured appendix. By 6 am, she was in surgery.
After she was out of surgery and in a room, Karin stayed with her while I went home to get some sleep. Right now, we've switched shifts and Karin is getting some rest.
Stacey and Allison and Don have been at SG all day trying to get the rest of the Super Sketch Club packed. We had a good amount of them done before this happened, and it's looking like we'll still be able to ship on time, with about half of the boxes going out on Wednesday and half on Thursday. Anyway, that's our goal.
I have a class on Thursday that I'm going to go ahead and cancel. Karin and I will be taking turns here at the hospital for at least five days as my mother recuperates and they make sure that there are no problems with infection.
From time to time, this is what happens when you're a small family business. Family comes first, business comes second. The great thing, I know that all of you understand that.
