Christmas greetings with Tammy Roberts...

Tammy Roberts has created four beautiful Christmas cards and two tags for her December class at SG. As always with Tammy's classes, expect to learn some fun new techniques. She'll also have a few touches done for you, like the machine stitching which is one of her trademarks! The class will be held Tuesday, December 6 at 6 pm, and the fee is $15.

To see close-up photos of all the individual items, click here to go to Tammy's blog.

To register, give us a call at 417-886-0440. (Don't wait too late...the class is already over half full of people who didn't need to see the samples to know they would be making something charmingly festive!)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Black Friday.
Small Business Saturday.
Cyber Monday.

For the first time, we participated in all three of these start-of-the-Christmas-shopping-season activities, and we'll definitely be doing that again.

Thank you so much to all the people who stopped by our store to shop on Friday and Saturday, and thanks as well to all of you who ordered one or more of our Sketches for Scrapbooking and Sketches for Cardmaking books online on Monday. Wow!

The economy is definitely doing some crazy things to people's buying habits, and we're so thankful that you chose to shop with us. For lack of a better way to describe it, we're blessed!

Email newsletter apology...

I'm so sorry that recently I often end up having to send out a corrected copy of the SG email newsletters. Here's what happens: for some reason, my camera has started sometimes giving photos duplicate numbers. When I place the photos in the newsletter and send myself a copy, everything looks great. When I send it out to thousands of people, if I've let two photos slip in with the same number, then the most recent one bumps out the older one and I have a photo that doesn't match the story.

So, apologies for once again having to send out a replacement. And if anyone knows how to keep a camera or computer from reusing the same numbers, I'd love to know that trick!

Card Party class, first sneak peek...

After great classes the past three months, SG's Card Party class continues in December with the same concept...three teachers, three cards, three tags, three stations, and three totally different approaches to cardmaking.

Today, we're showing you the card and tag that will be taught by Allison Davis. This is one-third of the projects you'll be making in the class. Allison's projects will show how easy it is to make a card from a sketch. You'll receive a computer sketch of the featured card that can be used over and over for cards of any topic.

This Card Party class takes place Thursday, December 8 at 6 pm. The fee is $15. To sign up, call 417-886-0440.

As soon as possible, we'll show you Katrina Hunt's and Stacey Atchley's cards and tags.

Super-Saver Scrapbooking layouts for December

It's time for Christmas trees, ornaments, and plenty of holiday activities -- and SG's popular Super-Savers are the perfect match for your family memories. Our December layouts are just waiting for your photos!

Here's a look at the three layouts we'll be making Saturday, December 3 in the Super-Saver Scrapbooking sessions at Scrapbook Generation. As always, your cost to make these three layouts at SG is an amazing $9. Give us a call to register and pre-pay. Sessions are held at 10, 12:30 and 2:30. And don't forget that you'll get one punch on your Studio G Reward Card. Don't have a card yet? No problem...we'll make sure you get one!

Please call early (417-886-0440) to reserve your spot! If you can't attend and would like us to make you a kit, the fee is $10 and is due at the time you request the kit.

Note to Super Sketch Club members: Yes, materials for these three layouts will be included in your December kit!

Smash books...

Right now, our poor Smash book display looks rather sad after Black Friday! I've re-ordered the whole thing three times already, and the fourth order is on its way and should arrive on Wednesday. The Smash books and all the fun accessories have been some of the best-selling items we've ever had. People are buying them not only for themselves, but also as gifts for others.

So if you haven't jumped in the middle of this fun activity yet, we'll have a new supply of everything Smash book by mid-week.

We're so excited!

For some time now, we've had the most pitiful gift cards on the face of the planet. We had tried several styles of do-it-yourself-crafty ones over the years, but usually just ran out of time and did the quickest thing that would get us by until we needed another batch.

Now we officially have nice gift cards like the big guys! Our order arrived just now, and we can't wait to start selling the new cards and tucking them inside their cute matching holders. Hope several of you get them in your Christmas stockings this year!

Cyber Monday!

We don't want to leave our long-distance shoppers out of the holiday bargains offered by SG, so for the first time we are participating in Cyber Monday!

On Monday, November 28, order one or more of Scrapbook Generation Publishing's 11 layout or card sketch books at scrapbookgeneration.com and we'll provide free shipping. (The discount won't show up when you place your order, but will be done manually when your card is charged.)

Small Business Saturday!

Can't make it to SG on Black Friday? The fun is going to continue on Saturday!

For the first time, we're participating in Small Business Saturday. This Saturday from 10 am until noon, with our email coupon you can take 20% off your entire purchase! (Print out the coupon, or simply show it to us on your phone.)

If you aren't receiving our email newsletters, email debbie@scrapbookgeneration.com and we'll add you to our mailing list.

Super Sketch Club shipping...

Just letting you know that most of the November Super Sketch Club boxes shipped out before Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving...

The four of us hope that you and your families have a glorious Thanksgiving. Even amidst the craziness of our hectic and sometimes stressful lives, we always have much to be thankful for as we enjoy the freedom and the bounty of the country called America.

A 'Holly Jolly' Black Friday giveaway!

We know that lots of places are competing for your Black Friday dollars, and we have some special offers for you, too! On Friday, November 25, our first 100 customers (adults only, one per family) to spend $15 receive a free My Mind's Eye "Holly Jolly Christmas" collection pack, a $10 value. The collection pack with its nine double-sided papers is shown above, and we've also included a photo of the 12x12 die-cut sheet that's included in the pack.

In addition to the free collection packs, everyone who shops with us that day gets 30% off one item (again, adults only, one discount per family).

We'll open early at 7 am, and be open until our regular closing time, 7 pm.

SG Publishing announcement...

Are you ready for a couple of new sketches books? We are!

Scrapbook Generation Publishing will have two new books ready for purchase in mid-January.

• Sketches for Scrapbooking: One-Page Sketches, volume two, by Allison Davis, will contain 30 new one-page sketches. Allison has created a wonderful variety of sketches ranging from layouts with only one photo, to layouts with 10 or more photos. And even if you are primarily a two-page scrapbooker, these one-page sketches are perfect for opening and closing pages.

• Sketches for Scrapbooking: Travel Sketches, volume one, by Debbie Sanders and Allison Davis, will contain approximately 25 two-page sketches. This book is still in the planning and creating phase. Expect not only layout sketches, but possibly travel-themed add-on sketches similar to the ones on Sketch Support, and journaling and photography tips for travel layouts.

How do travel sketches differ from the other two-page layouts we design? We're concentrating on creating sketch layouts with a large number of uncropped photos and larger areas for journaling than our typical sketches. (If you don't do much journaling, these areas can always be used for an additional photo.)

Keep watching this blog for our announcement of when pre-orders will be accepted. We'll also notify everyone through an email newsletter (you can be added to this mailing list by sending an email to debbie@scrapbookgeneration.com) and on our Facebook page (link on the right sidebar).

We're excited about the new books, and bet you will be, too. We just received the latest 950-page catalog from Notions Marketing, the wholesale distributor for SG's books, and right next to our barcodes are stars. A star designates Notions' best-selling items...and it's almost time to add a couple more to the list!

Allison Davis sketch layout & special offer...

Count your blessings! The layout above is perfect for recording both the big and little things that give our lives meaning.

We'll be making the layout above in the Allison Davis free sketch sessions this Saturday. Your cost to make this layout? About $4. Can't beat that deal.

But we have another great deal for this Saturday! As we were looking at this layout and the title "Count Your Blessings," we decided that we should be the first to do so. As a way of saying "thanks" to our customers, we are sending a coupon out in our email newsletter later today. With the coupon, you can receive 10% off your entire purchase on Saturday, Nov. 19 if you attend and participate in one of the sketch sessions. (Purchasing a kit does not qualify.)

Just call us at 417-886-0440 to register for a session at 10 am or 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 19. Bring basic tools, and we'll provide you with a free computer sketch that you can use over and over!

And don't forget, we'll punch your Studio G Reward Card. Don't have one yet? No problem, we'll be happy to get you started on the way to earning some great rewards like free page kits, $20 gift cards, My Mind's Eye collection kits, We R Memory Keepers 12x12 albums, and more!

If you want a kit, the fee is $5, and is due at the time the request is made.

Super Sketch Club members:
Yes, this layout and sketch will be included in your November kit!

Timeless Treasures class...

Timeless Treasures class with Debbie Sanders: offered Thursday, November 17 at 2 pm. Fee: $15 (Sorry, because of limited materials no kits are available.)
I wanted to let you know that the November "Timeless Treasures" will be the last one that I will be teaching. As you've noticed over the past few months, because our business is growing so rapidly we've had to alter our work and class load in a few ways in order to keep up, which in the scheme of things is a good problem to have.

It's with a great deal of regret that I finally decided that I need to give up this class. It's been a staple of our schedule for years, first as a series of Anna Griffin classes, then as ones I've designed myself. I have been horrible about not getting the samples done in time for the class to be adequately promoted, so I really should have passed off the duties long ago.

One reason I didn't look too hard for another teacher is because I enjoy our little group of third-Thursday-at-2 pm-regulars so much. Over the years, I feel like we have become good friends, and I have a real fondness for these ladies and what they bring to my life.

But sometimes things have a way of working out! Shirley Hall has agreed to take over the monthly Timeless Treasures class, and I think this will be a perfect fit. Shirley is retiring from her job within the next few weeks, and will start teaching Timeless Treasures with the December class.

Some of you will know Shirley's work through her participation in our Designers Challenge Club. She consistently brought in stunning items, and vintage and shabby chic are comfortable areas of creativity for her. Others of you will remember that Shirley is the mother of Tammy Tutterow, a nationally-known designer who has previously taught some weekend classes here at SG.

So welcome to Shirley as a new teacher at SG. And don't be surprised if I enroll in her December class!

Let's talk retreats...

For a quarter of a century, I taught my journalism students to always start their news stories with the most important fact. So here it is. The four weekend retreats we already have scheduled for 2012 in Branson will be our last.

We always try to keep you informed about not only what we do, but also why. Here is the why.

We have to slow down a bit...
By far, the most difficult part of hosting our retreats is the physical labor involved. It takes a great deal of time and energy to gather the store items, pack them in boxes, load them in a trailer, unload them at the hotel, and arrange the items. Then when it's time to come home, you follow the same procedure -- in reverse! It takes at least a week before and a week after the retreats just to pack the store and then get everything back in place at SG. Sometimes longer.

Sometimes, we have help with the carrying and loading from the guys in our lives, but they aren't always available. As the oldest of the SG group by five years, I came to the realization after the recent fall retreats that I just can't keep lifting heavy boxes and not expect to pay the price.

In addition, although we truly have fun with the people in attendance, Karin and I don't get a great deal of sleep at the retreats, which isn't always time-related. It's just hard to wind down and actually get to sleep. By the time both weekends are over, usually one or both of us has been sick, and we're always worn out. It takes us days after each weekend to feel like we're back to "normal" again.

So appreciative of those who have attended over the years...
The retreats have always been extremely profitable and almost always are sell-outs. At the fall retreats last month, we had guests from Arkansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Texas, in addition to Missouri. We have "regulars" who have been to every retreat we've hosted, and we've also made some wonderful new friends along the way. Karin and I always talk about how nice the ladies are after each retreat. We somehow manage to get the cream of the crop, no pun intended!

I enjoy the atmosphere at retreats, and sometimes even get to scrapbook a little myself. But it's just too much, and I've finally admitted it. The bottom line is that I don't want to feel exhausted for eight weeks every year anymore, and I also don't want Karin and Stacey and Allison to feel that way either. And in being specific about the reasons we won't continue the retreats, I haven't meant to complain, but just to be truthful.

That said, Debbie Downer (Stacey and Allison's pet name for their beloved mother) is actually looking forward to our four final Branson retreats! We'll have fun themes, great food, cute classes, and plenty of room. We'll laugh too loud, eat too much, and stay up too late. We'll definitely go out with a bang!

Spring retreat registration...
We'll take registrations for the two spring retreats starting at 10 am on December 1. A non-refundable deposit of $50 will hold your spot. You can choose from the weekends of March 16-18 and March 23-25.

Expect a new option for 2013...
And you know us fairly well by now. You might be able to figure out that we probably have put our heads together and come up with a way that we can have a retreat-like experience here at SG, without having to move everything we own to a new location, which is by far our largest problem. A few months from now, expect to hear about the new spring, summer, and fall events we'll be hosting here at SG. We think you'll enjoy what we've come up with!

More new goodies...

Epiphany Crafts...so fun! We have the shape tools, one style of the button tool, and the matching clear tops so that you can customize your embellishments to your project.

New Christmas! I've lost track of the number of Christmas collections that we have already, but we've added more to our seasonal wall, including Saint Nick by Fancy Pants, Timeless Christmas by TPC Studio, Peppermint Twist by We R Memory Keepers, Wonder and Wishes by Little Yellow Bicycle, Deck the Halls by Three Bugs in a Rug, and Christmas Eve Chowder by Jillibean Soup.

Saturday's sketch layout reminder...

Bright, lively, and lots of fun! The layout above can be used for so many themes, including parties, friends, or even everyday snapshots of your favorite person.

We'll be making the layout above in the Debbie Sanders free sketch sessions this Saturday. Your cost to make this layout? About $4. Can't beat that deal!

Just call us at 417-886-0440 to register for a session at 10 am or 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 12.

Super Sketch Club add-on announcement...

Earlier, I had announced that we would have Disney add-ons available for November. For a variety of reasons, that just isn't going to happen, and I sincerely apologize.

In seven weeks, we've had Scrap-a-Palooza, two weekend retreats, a seventh birthday hoopla, and a mother/grandmother who is requiring lots of attention. Add to that, several of us have been ill with whatever bug is going around, and we've just run out of time to get the add-on layouts done and get the materials ordered in time for you to order them and ship with your November Super Sketch Club kits.

We HAVE ordered samples of every Disney paper and embellishment we can find, and we're in the process of organizing what we want to make and order. Please accept my apologies for promising something that just isn't possible to do this month.

Plans are to offer the Disney add-ons for December instead of November. That will give Allison and I enough time to create the layouts we want, and also to get all the papers and embellishments ordered.

Often, I plan more for us that we can physically get done. Most times, we just scramble and stay up late and get it done. This time, I could just see that it wasn't going to work, no matter how hard we tried. I hope everyone understands.

Sketch Support awesomeness...

Have you checked out the Sketch Support website lately? Scrapbook Generation Publishing's sketch website, with free downloadable sketches and beautiful examples by talented designers, is a tremendous resource. I especially love the two-page sketch that Allison Davis has designed for this week. If you've never visited the site, now's the time...such a wonderful assortment of layouts, all using the same sketch, but each so unique.

Click here to visit the Sketch Support website.

Flower Soft and much more...

Flower Soft has arrived at SG! This acid-free product is extremely versatile, and is designed for both cardmaking and scrapbooking. Adding Flower Soft to your projects just requires some glue and imagination.

The soft, colored sprinkles come in a little pot. You apply glue to an image, sprinkle it with Flower Soft, and let it dry. We also have a huge supply of the Flower Soft glue, and Flower Soft wires. With the wires, you can create gorgeous shaped flowers to add to your projects, or even to display in a vase.

We have every color of the original Flower Soft sprinkles, and also the latest ultra-fine sprinkles and glitter sprinkles. Stacey Atchley will be using this fun product for her part of the December Card Party class, but if you can't wait for her personal demo next month, just do a search for Flower Soft and you'll find lots of online tutorials.

Thank you for sharing our special day!

Our permanent birthday "cake!" Christine Rantz made this gorgeous creation for us last year, and it was so easy to change the candle to a seven. Thanks, Christine!

We opened early for extra time for classes and shopping! Red goodie bags went to the first 250 lucky people to arrive. Love it that with the large building, we can still have over a hundred people in SG at one time, and still not feel the least bit crowded.

Over 125 people attended one of the five Super-Saver sessions and made three cute birthday layouts.

Karin and Stacey spent most of the day at the checkout counter. We gave away lots and lots of shopping rewards in the form of gift cards that can be redeemed all the way through March.

Katrina Hunt helps us out on special Saturday events by teaching the free mini-classes. We couldn't function on those days without her! She manages to juggle two classes and as many as a dozen people crowded around at one time. So much appreciated!

Reginna Hagemeier, far right, is having a pretty good time making a couple of cards at our free class station in the lobby. Everyone seemed to be in such a good mood Saturday!

Lemon-orange sunshine mini-cupcakes...yum.

Perfect for this season -- harvest apple mini-cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.

Additional cupcake choices at our birthday bash buffet were double peanut butter and chocolate, and cherry almond!
Scrapbook Generation's seventh birthday party was everything we imagined it would be...a fun day with our wonderful customers, who along the way, have become friends. We've exchanged stories, been through both difficult times and happy times, and always, wholeheartedly, have shared a love for preserving our family memories through scrapbooking.

In the seven years SG has been in existence, Karin and Stacey and Allison and I have learned, changed, and grown. When we first opened, pretty much all we needed to know how to do was run a cash register, place a few orders, and arrange a few displays.

Seven years later...it's complicated! We unload pallets, ship international packages by the truckload, pack thousands of kits each month, plan and host mega-crops and retreats, maintain several websites and social media pages, and juggle a retail store and a publishing company. We've gone from being a family experiment that we hoped would not be a disaster into being a family business that has succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.

Someone said this to me yesterday, at the birthday celebration...
"It's YOUR birthday, but you're giving us presents!"
Well, how could we not?

We never lose sight of the fact that no matter how many pretty papers and shiny embellishments we can gather in one place, we won't continue to do well if we don't have a deep appreciation for our customers. So we hope you enjoyed the goodie bags, the gifts in the Super-Saver sessions, the gift cards, and the yummy cupcakes! It was our way of saying "thanks" for making Scrapbook Generation's first seven years so awesome.

Saturday is our birthday party!

If you like the following...

• Goodie bags with $20 worth of free stuff
• Gift card rewards for shopping
• Lots and lots and lots of new sale papers and embellishments
• Extra gifts in the "Super-Saver" sessions, including five $25 gift cards
• Free mini-classes
• Drawings for a $100 gift basket from SG
• Birthday bash buffet with gourmet mini-cupcakes
• And a great shopping experience...

Then you'll need to be at our seventh birthday party on Saturday, November 5!
Doors open early at 9 am for shopping and activities.

Card Party class, first sneak peek...

After sell-out crowds the first two months, SG's Card Party class continues in November with the same concept...three teachers, three cards, three tags, three stations, and three totally different approaches to cardmaking.

Today, we're showing you the card and tag that will be taught by Katrina Hunt. This is one-third of the projects you'll be making in the class. Katrina's projects will be showcasing the new ribbon punch sets by We R Memory Keepers (which everyone loves, by the way!).  She'll also be showing you how to use a scoring board to make medallion flowers, and how to make the flower centers by using the epoxy shape and button maker tools by Epiphany Crafts.

(We'll have plenty of all the great tools and their accessories by We R Memory Keepers and by Epiphany Crafts if you decide you like them. I'm especially loving the shape and button maker myself!)

This Card Party class takes place Thursday, November 10 at 6 pm. The fee is $15. To sign up, call 417-886-0440. (The class sold-out early last month, so if you want to enroll, I'd advise doing it quickly!)

As soon as possible, we'll show you Allison Davis' card and tag, and later, Stacey Atchley's card and tag.
